Foods to Eat for Migraines
One of the easiest ways to help relieve your frequent migraines and headaches is by eating softer foods. If TMJ is the cause of your headaches and migraines, the source of the pain is in your jaw. The headache is usually from jaw tension or referred pain so to treat your migraines; you have to go to the source of the problem-the temporomandibular joint. By eating soft foods, you can take some of the pressure and tension away from the jaw joint that’s causing your headaches.
Stay away from anything too difficult to chew. Instead eat a variety of steamed or cooked vegetables, beans, fish, scrambled eggs, soft fruit without skins, yogurt, mashed potatoes, and smoothies. The softer your diet, the better it is for your symptoms.
Foods to Avoid for Migraines
On the other hand, you should avoid any foods that require you to chew too much. Chewing too much won’t give your jaw muscles a break and therefore won’t help relieve frequent headaches anytime soon. Try to avoid foods such as apples, corn on the cob, chips, raw carrots, crunchy cereal, toffee, ice, nuts, steak, candy bars, gum, caramels, or other chewy candy.
